    Huddersfield is home to Patrick Stewart ( aka Captain Jean Luc Picard from Star Trek ) and former British Prime Minister Harold Wilson. It is a town located in the county of Yorkshire in the north of England and is famous for the mining of coal and the manufacturing of fabrics.

    Other cities, towns and places in the region near Huddersfield include Bradford, Sheffield, Wakefield, Manchester and Leeds.

    Things to see and do in Huddersfield

    Huddersfield was a town at the heart of the industrial revolution and is a relatively new town situated in a basin of hills. One of the best views of the town can be got from Castle Hill which has been a place of recreation for hundreds of years.

    Take a walk from the centre of town, through the area of Newsome to this windy vantage and enjoy some of the most spectacular views the area has to offer.

    Haddersfield railway station

    Visit the railway station and admire the façade of the building that looks more like a stately home rather than a train station.

    Visit Queens Gate indoor market to see one of the most unique design of a ceilings anywhere in the world.

    Take a walk to the neighbouring villages of Slaitwaite and Marsden. If you take the train from Huddersfield, you can embark from Slaitwaite, a proper old mill village, along the canal to Marsden.

    Take the children to Kirklees Light Railway to travel on Hawk, Owl, Fox, Badger or Jay, the five friendly little engines at the home of Yorkshire’s Great Little Steam Trains.
