    Brazil is one of the most diverse and vibrant countries in the world and is located in South America. It is the largest country in that part of the world and also has the largest population of just fewer than 200 million people.

    Brazil’s capital city is Brasilia and Brasilia is in the Unesco’s World Hertitage List due to its imaginative architecture.

    Brazil is a former Portuguese colony and gained independence from Portugal in 1822. It is also the only Portuguese speaking country on the South America continent.

    The map of Brazil show that it shares its international borders with Venezuela, Guyana, Suriname and the French overseas territory of French Guiana in the north; Colombia in the north west; Bolivia and Peru in the west; Argentina and Paraguay in the south west, and Uruguay in the south.

    Brazil has a tropical climate consisting of various ecosystems, such as the Amazon Rainforest, recognized as having the greatest biological diversity in the world and the world’s biggest river the Amazon.

    The country is a melting pot of nationalities, as a result European migration as well as slavery, which brought African migrants across Brazil’s borders to live in and influence the local cultures with their traditions and customs.

    In recent years Brazil has started to become economically strong thanks mainly to exploration of its vast reserves on minerals and other natural resources as well as increase trade with the rest of the world, particularly with China.

    In 2014 Brazil will host the World Cop 2014 and in 2016 will play host the Olympics for the first time in its history.
