    Enniskillen is a town in the County of Fermanagh, Northern Ireland. It is located on an island which separates the Upper and Lower sections of Lough Erne, the fourth biggest lake system in Ireland.

    The town centre of Enniskillen is built along the narrow Main St, which changes name six times along its length. High street stores sit comfortably beside small independent traders, creating a special atmosphere for the town.

    However, Enniskillen is not just a retail centre for the County of Fermanagh, it is also a lively hub for activities, events and things to do throughout the year.

    Enniskillen being the County Town of Fermanagh, is the centre for education in the county and is home to Portora Royal School the historic school where Oscar Wilde and Samuel Becket attended.

    What to see and do in Enniskillen

    Watersports

    There are well over a hundred islands, coves and inlets in the waters around Enniskillen that gives canoeists plenty of fascinating areas to explore. The calm bays offer perfect conditions for waterskiing and wakeboarding.

    There are no commercial craft to contend with, so sometimes it feels like you’ve got the whole lake to yourself. A morning’s fishing, followed by a slow pub lunch at one of the surrounding towns, is regarded by many as the perfect weekend.

    Each year the Lough Erne Regatta, Ireland’s oldest series of sailing races dating back to 1822 take place on the lake. They’ve been held every year since the early 19th century on the ocean-like waves of the Lower Lough.

    Castle Coole

    Visit Castle Coole, the huge mansion that is situated on a 1200-acre woodland estate. It was home to the Earls of Belmore, Guided tours take visitors through the recreated rooms, including lavish bedrooms and modest servants’ quarters. Outside are the buildings that helped the house to run smoothly such as the dairy and the stables. People can either explore here, or wander off into the vastness of the surrounding landscaped park.

    Devenish Monastic Site

    Visit Devenish Monastic Site founded in the 6th century by Saint Molaise on one of Lough Erne’s many islands. During its history it has been raided by Vikings, burned and flourished as a parish church site and St Mary’s Augustine Priory.
